VOLT23Performance Biomarkers

Build performance that holds when conditions change.

When pressure rises, setbacks stack, and certainty disappears, what happens to your execution?

VOLT23 is built to examine the patterns behind performance—across mindset, response to adversity, leadership, and team execution—so you can identify what is limiting progress and direct the work that strengthens it.

For sales professionals.Their leaders.Organizational teams.

02The Performance Gap

The standard is clear. Can you sustain it under pressure?

A capable rep loses focus after a difficult week. A leader becomes reactive when results slip. A team understands the plan but struggles to adapt when priorities change.

The gap can extend beyond technical skill. It can involve how people interpret setbacks, manage attention, recover, communicate, and take responsibility for the next move.

Before demanding more effort, understand what is affecting execution.

  • Individual performance

What happens to your focus, decisions, and follow-through when the day stops going your way?

  • Leadership performance

How do you respond when others need clarity, accountability, and direction—and you are carrying pressure yourself?

  • Organizational performance

Do your team’s systems, expectations, and culture support execution when conditions change?

03What VOLT23 Examines

Make the invisible performance patterns visible.

VOLT23 is Joe Wanner’s performance diagnostic methodology. It is built to investigate the relationship between how people think, how they respond to adversity, and how they execute within the systems around them.

The purpose is practical: identify the constraints, determine where intervention belongs, and give people and leaders a clearer starting point for improvement.

What are performance biomarkers?

Within VOLT23, performance biomarkers are observable indicators of how a person or team functions under real demands. They connect broad concerns such as “we need a better mindset” or “the team lacks consistency” to specific behaviors and operating patterns that can be examined.

These are behavioral and organizational indicators, rather than medical measurements.

04Performance in Practice

Look at what happens when performance is tested.

Mindset becomes useful when it shows up in behavior. Adversity reveals where that behavior holds—and where support, practice, or a better system is needed.

  • Mindset and interpretation

How do people interpret a setback? Does their response produce useful action, avoidance, defensiveness, or a loss of direction?

  • Focus and execution

Can they identify the priority and follow through when distractions, uncertainty, and competing demands increase?

  • Response to adversity

After rejection, disruption, or disappointment, what helps them regain direction and take the next effective step?

  • Capacity and recovery

Are demands and working rhythms supporting sustainable execution? Where does overload begin to affect judgment, consistency, or communication?

  • Leadership and accountability

Do leaders create clarity, address problems directly, and follow through on the standards they ask others to meet?

  • Culture and alignment

Are expectations, communication, incentives, and everyday behavior moving the team in the same direction?

Examine the person. Examine the leadership. Examine the environment.

05The VOLT Framework

Four lenses for understanding performance.

VOLT looks at the forces that support progress and the constraints that slow it down—across individuals, leaders, and teams.

  • VelocityTurn intention into meaningful progress.

Examine how effectively priorities become action. Look at the movement from decisions to execution, learning to application, and setbacks to the next constructive step.

    Question

Where are you moving—and where are you only staying busy?

  • ObservationSee the pattern before prescribing the fix.

Examine self-awareness, feedback, and the evidence behind decisions. Look at whether people recognize their own patterns and whether leaders can see what is actually happening across the team.

    Question

What are you observing, and what are you assuming?

  • LaggingFind the delay between knowing and doing.

Examine where action stalls after a problem is recognized. Look at delayed decisions, inconsistent follow-through, and the gap between receiving feedback and applying it.

    Question

What keeps the needed change from becoming consistent behavior?

  • TensionResolve the friction that drains execution.

Examine unresolved conflict, unclear expectations, misalignment, and resistance to change. Look at how those conditions affect people’s ability to communicate, adapt, and perform together.

    Question

What are people spending energy working around instead of resolving?

Build momentum. Improve awareness. Reduce delay. Resolve friction.

06Who It Serves

For people responsible for their next response.

  • Sales professionals

Build greater consistency in how you approach demanding work, respond to rejection, and execute through setbacks. Examine technical skills alongside the mindset and working patterns that affect their application.

  • Sales managers and organizational leaders

Understand your own response to pressure while building clarity, accountability, and stronger performance in the people you lead.

  • Founders and executives

Investigate the conditions behind organizational performance and decide where leadership, systems, or development need to change.

  • Organizational teams

Strengthen how you communicate, align, adapt, and execute together when demands increase or plans change.

Bring a real performance challenge. Start with an honest examination.

07The SalesGym Connection

A broader performance lens. A specific proving ground.

VOLT23 examines performance across mindset, adversity, leadership, and organizational execution.

SalesGym provides a focused environment for sales professionals to practice execution through live sales sparring and resistance.

When the performance concern involves sales conversations under pressure, SalesGym can provide a place to work on that execution. When it involves leadership, alignment, or organizational friction, the intervention must address those conditions.

08Built From the Work

Performance is personal. Leadership makes it collective.

Joe Wanner, founder of SalesGym, seated and leaning forward with his glasses in one hand, looking off to the side.

Joe Wanner brings a background in exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, sales production, and team development to the challenge of performance under pressure.

His work and lived experience have shaped a practical belief: understanding the real constraint matters before deciding that someone simply needs to push harder.

VOLT23 applies that perspective to people, leaders, and teams—connecting individual responses with the expectations, systems, and environments that shape execution.

09FAQs

FAQs

Is VOLT23 only about sales skills?

No. VOLT23’s scope includes overall performance, mindset, response to adversity, leadership, and organizational team execution. Sales skills are one application within that broader picture.

What does mindset mean here?

How people interpret challenges and how that interpretation affects decisions and behavior. The work connects mindset to observable responses such as follow-through, openness to feedback, communication, and action after a setback.

What does overcoming adversity mean in a performance context?

Recognizing what has changed, responding honestly, and rebuilding a useful path forward. The focus is on how people and teams regain direction and execute through difficult conditions.

Can VOLT23 examine a whole team?

The framework considers both individual behavior and shared conditions such as leadership, expectations, communication, accountability, and culture. The scope of any engagement should reflect the specific team challenge.

Are performance biomarkers medical tests?

No. VOLT23 uses the term for behavioral and organizational performance indicators. It does not refer to blood tests, physiological monitoring, or medical diagnosis.

How does VOLT23 relate to SalesGym?

VOLT23 provides the broader diagnostic lens. SalesGym focuses on conditioning sales execution through live sparring. The appropriate development work depends on the performance constraint being examined.
